Activity:
Trail hike
Trip name:
Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park
Coordinator:
Brian
Report:

The temperature of 4 at the trailhead held steady for most of the day. Although the trail has some snow on it in spots, the snow was soft and no traction devices were needed. The only thing missing was the sun – the pesky Chinook arch was to the west and stayed there.

Waiting for the Chinook - but nice cloud formations

With almost no wind, we had pleasant hike to the lunch spot, where we enjoyed a leisurely lunch with conversation flowing all around.

Linear Lunch

In the past year or so, the idyllic lunch location has been marred by the appearance of a Cochrane subdivision to the south, making one wonder when our lunch of sandwiches amongst the cow pies will be replaced by drinks on a restaurant patio.

The wind began to pick up after lunch, so we headed for home. It was still only 1 PM when we arrived at the junction with the Tiger Lily trail, so the coordinator suggested lengthening the hike by looping over to the Yodel trail instead. While 5 members opted to return , the other six agreed to this extension, which added about an hour and 3 km to the trip. We still arrived back at the cars about 2 PM.
