A grand day in the Lake Louise area which is now less crowded than in the summer. Not much sun until the afternoon, but not much wind either.

The larch that still retained needles are now a copper gold colour, as are the paths around the Saddleback col.

Larches

The yellow "brick" road

It was probably around 15 years since I had done this hike and I was suprised to find a clear trail to the summit.

Patriotic view point (John, Rosanne & Audrey)

Once on top we found a sheltered spot where we enjoyed a long lunch.

Blue sky started to appear as we descended.

We saw a nutcracker on the way up at the col and a blackbacked woodpecker in the woods above the lake on our descent, but that was about it for wild life.

Some headed off home while the rest took a detour to catch a glimpse of the lake, then headed down to the village for ice cream cones before the return drive.

Thanks to all for their company on a fine day in the mountains.
