Sunny with a few clouds, temps just below zero, trail very icy for the first km progressively better thereafter, some nice snow for turns off the pass.
We set out a little after 9:30 on a very icy Lower Canyon trail but by the time we were at the Healy Creek bridge things were much better.  It is a long slog first to the Simpson Pass junction then up the convoluted trail to the meadows where we stopped for a bite to eat.  While it was sunny most of the day, it seemed like clouds were determined to keep it cool while we lunched.  There was a generally good trail all the way up to just above the pass.

We skied a short run on the Egypt lake side before returning to the east side.

Off Healy Pass toward Egypt Lake

Portions of Healy Meadows were a little wind-hammered but we actually had some pretty good snow for most of the ski.

The torturous ski down to the Simpson Pass junction was a little more challenging than usual, but not too bad.  From there we had a generally easy ski (other than one log across the trail at a critical point).  The older snow has formed lots of surface hoar, making for nice photos, but potentially a problem for future avalanche conditions.

After dealing with the very icy last km we were back at the cars around 3:30 (I think).
Many thanks to participants: John,Damian,Clifton, and Barbara for joining me Carl (C/S).
