Edith Pass-Gargoyle Valley-Cory Pass loop Trail hike on 30-Oct-2026

Another beautiful blue-sky day with no wind, made even more scenic by the fresh snow!

We were treated to a morning inversion over the valley, and quickly warmed up on the steep climb. The crux of the day was descending the steep scrambley section on the way to Cory Pass: it was quite treacherous between the fresh snow and lack of any traction on the rock, but a couple of sturdy well-placed trees helped us slither down with some semblance of style. The views from Cory Pass were stunning, and we climbed a bit higher towards Edith for lunch.
The snow on the north side of the pass was deep and powdery (but no overhead hazard yet); fortunately, a couple of people had done the loop after yesterday's snow and made our journey much easier than it would have been otherwise. The deep shaded valley was surprisingly bright and warm, and it was particularly enjoyable for the several of us who had never done the loop before.

The forested walk back to the cars was warm and enjoyable thanks to much conversation. Thanks to everyone for another beautiful day out together, and welcome to new member Paul, whom we can already tell is an excellent addition to the club! 13km/1000m/5.75 hours.
