Our route is well explained in the article below from Sonny Bou. If using the GPX file in the article be sure to stay to climbers right as you approach Moose Mountain (i.e. stay to the side of the route where JP3 is in this diagram from the article and come back the same way).
If you took climbers left after the weathervane you will end up in thick bush and will likely exit on to the road facing the lower gas plant as opposed to the upper gas plant directly in front of your intended route up Moose Mountain.
When you are on the correct approach to Moose Mountain you will descend a steep dirt hill and finally down a steep rocky slope.
We went up the small peak on the far-left side of the photo below and the peak to the right of that slope.
The trip took eight hours and a distance of 20 km. Gaia reported an elevation gain of 1841 m. I'm not sure if that is a reliable elevation or not.
It’s a great route for hikers looking for a nice long ridge walk a short drive from Calgary. It is certainly a great workout and is best suited for strong hikers.
