Panorama Meadows via Taylor Lake Trail hike on 22-Sep-2026

What a beautiful day in the autumn colors.

We started up the Taylor Lake trail at about 09:15 in the rather cool air but bright blue skies. There were a few other vehicles in the parking lot but once on the trail there were not too many others. The trail up to the Lake is so well maintained and nicely graded - we got to the lake in time for a water break then continued up over the ridge shoulder and into the fall colors. The valley between Panorama East ridge and Panorama Peak is totally full of larches at the time in various shades between green and bright yellow/orange.

We stopped at the first very small lake for a leisurely lunch, before continuing up through the trees towards Panorama Ridge to make a loop. The larches in the valley are of various sizes - some very old and very large. The group continued around the loop then down to the trail we came in on. We were back at the parking lot about 4:30pm.

Just above our lunch lake, Chuck from Banff (of Skier Roger fame) was kind enough to take a group photo.

On the way home, we saw the small plane that made an emergency landing on west bound #1 hwy near Redearth PL - lots of police vehicles around.
