Big Sister 156525 Scramble on 28-Aug-2026

Participants: Sim, Bruce, Pam, Casey

It had been many years since either Sim or I summited this one, so was great to return, especially with a fun and competent group. I had forgotten how nice the rock is - grippy slab, the occasional fun bit of somewhat challenging scrambling and very little scree bashing. The weather was perfect, although smoke once again lessened the enjoyment of the potential views.

It was also nice to meet newish Rambler, Casey, and we all enjoyed conversations on the route down - so much so, in fact, that we were not paying attention and ended up part-way down the ridge slightly to the north before noticing our error. Thankfully, we were able to downclimb off it and found a sheep trail crossing the big gully to regain our ascent ridge. This ended up being a nicer route, actually. Sheep are good trail makers! I always enjoy exploring new routes (especially with Sim navigating) so was interesting to see different terrain.
I believe the elevation ended up being just over 1300m, 7.2 km.

Thanks to Casey for taking and sharing his photos!
