Storm Mtn Scramble on 24-Aug-2026

Participants: Sim, Bill, Pam, Jenny

A great start to our day, as heading out of the city, we could see our beloved Rocky Mountains in full detail for the first time after a month of varying degrees of smoke in the air. Good example of how much you appreciate things that you've missed for a while!

Tracing our steps from Bill's trip last year, we made our way from one rib to another enjoying fun scrambling and route finding to make it to the ridge toward the false summit. From there, it was mostly a walk on somewhat stable scree to the false summit and from there to the summit cairn. Lunch was back on the false summit where the temperature was perfect. We lingered a while.

We took the usual trail down to green grass of the bowl below, which felt longer than I remember, and our feet were happy to eventually arrive on soft grass. We enjoyed another break where we magically were joined by a herd of 16 sheep (one baby) who seemed at home with sharing the green grass with us. Such a special moment to enjoy especially being the only other humans on the mountain today.

Thanks, as always, to Sim for her excellent navigation skills and to Bill and Jenny for their excellent photos.
