Anderson Peak Scramble on 22-Jul-2026

The objective was to climb Anderson Peak via the basin to the south. We hiked up the scenic Blakiston Creek for an hour before turning up the drainage toward our objective.

The intent was to follow the drainage up to the Lost - Anderson col. After a short trash through the bush, including a veritable forest of saskatoons, the slope opened up. There was much loose rubble everywhere, making for slow travel. Further up, a more direct line toward Anderson seemed workable.

Alda found a drainage with nice slabs that served us for a while.

Unfortunately, as we got higher, the slopes became increasingly rubbly and our progress slowed. Around 1 PM we split up with Lenard and Alda continuing toward the peak, while Irene and Bill elected to traverse to the Lost - Anderson col. Both parties found the travel to be slow work.

However, the flowers were very nice. Notable was Lance-leaved Arnica with its fragrant leaves.

Along the way, Irene noticed a nice patch of Mountain Gentian.

While at the col, we watched the others continue to move upward. Irene pointed out two spots moving above them, which we thought to be goats.

With the poor rock and the time getting late, the ascent team turned around at 3 PM, and we all headed back down the valley, regrouping in the lower creek.

We got back to the cars at 6:15 PM. A longer day than intended, but it is always nice getting into new country.
