Baldy south peak via Baldy Pass Scramble on 27-Jun-2026

Pouring rain in Calgary in the morning, more rain on the drive out. Sprinkles on the drive home. Not a drop while we were on the hike!

I'm trying to call some moderate trips on the weekends to accommodate the Ramblers who are still contributing to CPP. But the weather really didn't look good for this weekend. And in fact it looks pretty rainy for at least a week! Then late on Friday I saw that the Kananaskis Village area wasn't showing rain until later on Saturday afternoon. And so I called the trip, wondering if anyone would sign up. Three lovely women did so.

We set out a little after 9 and trudged up to Baldy Pass, with memories for three of us of a hike (in significant snow) to Midnight Peak last October.

We took a short break there and then continued up the long ridge to the south peak of Mt Baldy. Arriving a little before noon.

We stayed there for about 1/2 hour watching storm cells in the distance in various directions. I have an Australian Oilskin hat that has on many occasions where one would expect rain, seemed to ward it off. Krystyna countered that she had prayed for nice weather.

Was it Carl's
Was it Carl's "Rain Warding Off" hat or Krystyna's prayers that kept the rain away? Maybe both?

A few minutes shy of the parking lot we spotted a lovely bunch of Coralroot.
