Bull Creek Hills Off-Trail hike on 7-Jun-2026
We took a chance on the unstable weather and ended up having a fun and satisfying day. The wind was strong and freezing even at the parking lot, and for the first 5 minutes I was doubting my stubbornness in wearing shorts. But we warmed up with the climb into sunshine and I started counting the different types of flowers in bloom.
Lunch was on the highest hill, still in sun, but on the way back it became cloudy and dry snow was being driven horizontally by the wind. Weird because it was well above zero! But at least we weren't getting wet.
We skipped the Boundary Pine due to the wind/snow, but continued up to Grass Hill and then followed the ridge onto the Gunnery Creek trail. By this point, everyone was well involved in the flower count and we finally surpassed 50 by the end. I even learned a few new members of the flower family called biscuitroot.
Thanks to a very fine group for the great day!
