Frank Lake bird viewing stroll Trail hike on 6-May-2026

This specialty trip for those interested in viewing birds had a beautiful sunny day and very little wind. It coincided with the access gate being opened for the first time this season but we chose to add a little distance instead of driving in, with about 5km of walking for the day and estimated elevation gain of 10 metres.

We were able to identify most living birds by careful scrutiny:

Some of today's birds: ruddy ducks, eared grebes, western grebes, american avocets, black necked stilts, white faced ibises, marbled godwits, many coots, scaups, american white pelicans, gulls (California, ringbill and Franklin's), cormorants, northern shovelers, blackbirds (redwing, brewer's and yellowheaded) and a meadowlark.
