Sandy McNabb Ski Trails Trail skiing on 15-Mar-2026

A later start meant for a warmer start temperature (-6C), which we all appreciated. The snow conditions were excellent especially for an area which often lacks snow during winter months. All tracks were skier set as the snow that fell over the past two days totally covered over tracks set before this.

We decided to do the outer loops on the south side of the road. These included sections of Meadow loop, Loggers loop and Sandy McNabb loop. We lunched at a view point along Loggers loop. There were a few people on the Loggers and Meadow loops. Shortly after lunch we passed a group from Sheep River Ramblers, one of whom is also an RMR member. The descent of the hill to the Sandy McNabb campground bench area was perhaps the most challenging part of the day. The rest of the route was reasonably flat. Interestingly, we did not see anyone on the Sandy McNabb loop.

The distance completed was 12km as originally posted and we all had an enjoyable relaxed ski. One of us had a small problem with icing of their skin about 2/3 of the way around, but we were able to solve this by applying skin wax. The weather cooperated with the sun coming out for lunch and staying out for the rest of the trip.

A good day to be skiing Sandy McNabb trails. Thank you for the company of Susan, Bill and Janet for joining me. It was a great exploration of this area for me, although all the rest had been here before. Worth a revisit when there is once again lots of snow.
