Certainly one of the best days to be in the mountains, but not including the drive to get there. We had lots of new snow which was conveniently packed with a single track most of the way. It was a blue sky day with plenty of sun, making the temperatures seem even warmer than they were.
We were a fairly large group with different speed abilities so we had a few designated regroup points. This worked quite well and allowed the "speedsters" to ski their pace while slower skiers were not left on their own for the duration of the "out" and "return". Thanks to Gary who policed the front of the group while I made sure no was left behind on their own.
The trip went as planned with a new trackset ski to the Goat Creek junction and then reasonably easy trailbreaking of 1 km.to the former warden cabin site. The cleared space where the cabin stood is quite large which allowed lots of sun for a warm lunch time.
After lunch
it was off to the upper Spray River bridge for a photo op.
We returned stopping at the "bus stop" for a regroup and then onto the car parking.
We met numerous people on our return including the famous "Chuck of Skier Roger fame". For those of you not in the know, Chuck is a 70's senior who skis mainly track mostly every other day and puts a report into Skier Roger's blog on the conditions he encountered - a very helpful item for those of us who want to know first hand conditions of different trails in the mountains.
I would like to thank all the participants for a great track ski in fine weather and it was great to see and chat with some who I have not skied with for awhile. Thanks to Dave, Tina and Gary for providing photos of the trip.
