With Mount Shark freshly groomed on Thursday, Friday turned out to be an ideal day to visit the area. Our early start proved worthwhile given the temperatures, and we were on the trails from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., covering roughly 20 km.
We skied most of the loops, everything except Draco, and enjoyed good conditions throughout. The tracks were firm but not icy, and we didn’t encounter any significant hazards.
The biggest challenge of the day was the temperature hovering around 0°C. Waxing became tricky: Swix V55 Red Special worked for a while but eventually didn’t help much as the snow warmed. Swix V60 didn’t offer much improvement. Meanwhile, Jane’s skin skis performed far better than Evan’s and my wax skis in the variable conditions.
Despite the waxing challenges, it was an enjoyable day overall, with good company. I’ll be posting another trip later this season likely with a slightly later start time.
