Kovach, Ribbon, Aspen loop from Village Track skiing on 30-Dec-2025

Participants: Rosanne, Philip, Barbara, Nancy, Leslie, Shirley, Neil, Pati

It was -8 (rising to -3 by the end of the day) at the trail head with a light but cool wind. There is a lot of snow, so much better than last year at any time. The 8 of us were mostly on wax skis except me, who had skin skis but was pining for my wax skis which are great climbers with the right wax and cooler temperatures. Nonetheless, conditions were really very good on all the trails, and the track setting was recent. There were a few thin sections on the Ribbon Creek trail big hill that goes up from the bridge. We had lunch at the “lookout” just before the Coalmine trail and the sun came out providing good views. As we proceeded down the Ribbon Creek Parking and back up to Aspen and the final run down to the cars, we heard several avalanches that sounded like they were on Mt Kidd. Another great day in the mountains – no wind and a nice temperature, great snow conditions and grand company.

Thanks to all the participants who were on my “maiden trip” as a coordinator and to Philip, my mentor.
