Sunshine backcountry ski with beacon practice at Sunshine beacon park

Participants: Ed, Roy, Ivan

Three of us rode up gondola and Standish chairlift. Then ski over to the east facing novice slope of Twin Cairns for turns.

Strong base with snow depth 15 to 80 cm. Ski penetration was 1 to 15 cm so nice turns; mostly near 12 cm. After 3 runs moved to north for another ski and then to Wawa knoll. That south facing slope had wet snow with air temperature at freezing plus sun affect. Weather station shows village got above freezing.

Headed to beacon park where practiced finding plus probing for four buried beacons. Day ended with ski down Wawa's green run; number of brown spots there. Not going to do downhill ski day in near future.

No pictures. Nice weather, low wind. 6 ski runs in 6 hour day. A number of other backcountry skiers out for day. Fewer downhillers with school fall break over.
