Sunshine backcountry ski for pass/ticket holders Off-Trail skiing on

Participants: Doug, Ed, Scott, Ivan

We rode up Wawa chairlift and tested beacons in Sunshines beacon park. Then to north side of Twin Cairns. Did 4 short turns runs on 3 different slopes. Felt this was only area where could do turns.

Snow on slopes typically 80 cm deep and nice powder. On route there and back varied from 5 cm to 45 cm with some nice skiing, some wind slabs and some poor snow. Sunshine reported 24 cm new snow in past week but wasn't any deeper than on previous week and snow felt bit poorer.

Finished with ski down Wawa's green run; snow coverage poor. I felt sorry for the downhillers.

7 km, 340 meters up and 500 meters down. From village to village 4 hours 45 minutes.

I was on teles most of day with blue extra grip wax which worked nicely.
