Mt Allan from Ribbon Creek - to Rock Garden and a bit beyond Off-Tra

The forecast was for 40-60 kph wind gusts, and given that the previous day’s winds were 90 gusting to 115, we didn’t know what to expect. So we were pleasantly surprised when not only was it +7 in the parking lot, but the wind seemed to match the forecast.

The crux of the day was breaking trail up the snowy treed section just below Olympic Summit, but the reward was spectacular views of snowy mountains and the fascinating environment of the Rock Garden. After pausing at 11:00 to reflect on Remembrance Day, we continued to the high point beyond the Rock Garden before turning around. A bonus was a close encounter (only metres away) with a ewe and her two lambs.

Overall, a great hike in much-better-than-expected conditions, plus it made us feel tough :). About 14 km/1200m in 6.75 hours.
