Tiara Peak Scramble on 3-Nov-2025

Participants: Mike, Stephanie, Alisen

Deciding to arrive at the trailhead a little earlier than scheduled, we set off for Powderface Road hoping for a snow-free ascent up Tiara Peak. However, once arriving at the parking area (a small pull out on the side of the road, big enough for only one car), it became very clear that there was going to be snow on the trail, and we may have to change our plans based on trail conditions.

As we arrived at the junction between the direct route up Tiara Peak and Belmore Browne, we discussed our options and decided to head towards Belmore Browne to hike up to the ridge and then traverse the long way over to Tiara thinking that this would be a better option, hoping that the conditions would be more favourable.

Having all been to Belmore Browne before, we initially decided to by-pass the peak and continue towards the ridge. As we traversed towards the ridge, the cold winds intensified. Once on the ridge, we began to make our way towards Tiara, which was still a long ways away.

As we made our way across the ridge, we had to contend with some knee deep snow drifts and other spots that were bare, making cleats almost useless, as there was not enough snow grip onto. As we continued to make our way up, we began the scramble, which with the fine dusting of snow made the terrain challenging. Before arriving to the next flat point on the ridge, the terrain and the care for our personal safety sopped us from continuing. The snow conditions were no longer cooperating, and the fine dusting of snow was making the rock and slab very slippery.

As a group we all agreed it was best to turn back, and enjoy a traverse over to Belmore Browne and call that our high point for the days outing.

Unfortunately the snow conditions did not cooperate with us today, and more snow would have been helpful, as it would have given us more purchase on the rock, and hopefully covered the slab on the summit block.
