Our quest for late turning larches was mostly but not entirely unsuccessful. The two creek crossings presented no problem and we didn't encounter any significant snow until we reached the well frozen lakes. The boot deep snow made the steep climb to the ridge harder than usual but once we reached the crest it was an enjoyable walk. After a relaxed lunch in a sunny spot we continued east descending to a wide saddle just before the last high point. From there we made a beeline steeply down at first but on bare ground before entering the forest and eventually intersecting the main trail. Back at 3:15 for a 5 hours hike including breaks.
