Kinda cold and quite a bit of snow on the OT5 portion, but mainly sunny. We had a fine day on Midnight Peak.
We set out around 9 and made our way up to Baldy Pass, occasionally having to take care on some icy spots. At the pass a little after 10.
From there is was clear that the route to South Baldy was completely dry. But the planned destination was Midnight and it didn't look like there was too much snow. In that we weren't quite right and we frequently were a bit challenged to find the best route.
A little higher up there was a little less snow and a more discernible trail.
We made the summit a little after 11:30.
It was not terribly windy or cold, but not inviting enough to spend a "Wally Hour" (or anything near that) at the summit. We did discuss following the ridge west and then descending to the trail, but decided that the devil we know was better than the one we don't. Most donned traction devices for the descent.
We stopped for a lunch break around 12:30.
And were back at the cars without incident around 2:15-30.
11 km, 950 m ascent, a little over 5 hours.
Many thanks to participants: Gary, Susan, Cordula, Nardi, Ingrid, Krystyna, Deb, Jozef, Tina, Nathalie, and Jenny for joining me, Carl (C/S)
