Three Lakes Valley 219322 Off-Trail hike on 23-Sep-2025
A perfect day for a walk in the mountains! The larch are not far along yet in the color change, with the most advanced being found at the upper margins. An after lunch highlight was observing a group of rams by the lower tarn in 3 Lakes valley. Thanks, John Gapp, for taking on a second group who left 30 minutes earlier, after my trip became way oversubscribed.
The second wave of Ramblers ready to move on, after a long break shared with John's group.
Chester Lake from above our lunch spot, and a lot of larch yet to turn yellow.
A bit of golden light in the highest larches.
Off-trail route from the lunch spot over to 3 Lakes Valley.
A herd of sheep greeted us at the lower tarn.
Upper tarns were dry as expected, but the lower and largest one was full.
The occasional crashing of horns was heard as we watched from across the tarn.
Looping back in 3 Lakes Valley to the Elephant rocks on a perfect afternoon.
