After a few weeks of somewhat hazy views from wildfire smoke, it was great to spend a day with vivid colors again - from the clear blue sky to the aspens changing from green to shimmering yellow.
From the pullout, just slightly west of mist creek, we followed the easy, well-defined trail to Mount Lipsett. Before reaching the summit, about the same height as the ridge between Lipsett and the west slope of Mist, we side-hilled over through the small cliff bands to reach the ridgeline. Although the scree slope to the beginning of the scrambling portion looked hard packed, it was actually somewhat soft (although still a slog) which took us 40 minutes to ascend. From there, the fun began! Staying on the side of the farthest climber's left gully almost all the way to summit , Sim did an extra extraordinary job of choosing a route which was challenging - but such great rock! Some of the best scrambling I've enjoyed this year.
Once on the summit, the wind had a fall bite to it, so we sheltered on the east side and enjoyed a leisurely lunch. On return, we followed the usual east ridge decent and excellent scree run. Once back in the forest we found the faint trail to lead us back to our cars which, although quite overgrown in sections, was still nicer than walking on the road. A perfect day with such such nice company!
Stats thanks to team tracker, Jack: 14.6 km, 1280 m, 7.5 hrs. (and thanks for keeping us on-track on route down).
Thanks also to both Jack and Hannah for sharing their photos.
