Pocaterra Ridge traverse S to N Off-Trail hike on 10-Sep-2025

We set off from the new Highwood pass parking lot shortly after 9 AM. As usual there were a few wet sections on the trial as we ascended through the trees, but otherwise the trail was dry and in good condition for its entire length. The weather was sunny with no wind, and a nice temperature for climbing. Although we had a fairly large group, every one was soon spread out along the trail, with a re-group every hour or so. A few larch trees where just beginning to show some colour change, but otherwise there was not much evidence of fall colours. As we approached the cars at the end of the trip there were a few spots of rain which rapidly became a deluge. Our shuttle back to the pass provided an unexpected treat with four very health grizzly bears feasting on berries by the roadside. Thanks to Nancy, Phyllis, Mike, Leslie, Carl, Janice, Joanne, Steve, Monica, Pat, Nancy, Claudia and Ian for coming out to join me . John Gapp John, C/S. Thank you Steve for the bear photos.
