The Wedge is one of my favorite scrambles when you want a shorter trip and shorter drive - like today when we were having another "heat event" (a scramble version of Prairie Mountain). The ascent is in the shade most of the way and from there it's not far to the first summit. We chose to scramble up directly when you reach the rock face, vs. going further to the south up an easier, but looser and more tedious gully. This route is a steep, somewhat exposed scramble but with really good rock most of the way. With a light wind to keep the temperature almost perfect, we enjoyed a long lunch on the south summit before heading down. Last year on this trip, Sim had shown us an alternate route down, using a series of ledges that lead from a cairn just before the exposed section between the north and south summit. It's a much gentler route, so we did the same this time. The track is now included in the original trip description for anyone wanting to use it in future (thanks, Jack!). Trip description
Stats (also from Jack): 7.9 km, 1130 m, 6.5 hours
Thanks to Sim and Jack for a thoroughly enjoyable day!
