Pigeon Mtn 258543 Off-Trail hike on 4-Jul-2025

The parking lot was just filling up as we left at 9:00 am with sunshine and a slight breeze. We traveled the road about a kilometer past the signed trail turn off, reaching a open gully (see photo) where we headed up following an infrequently used trail. Where the trail soon disappeared at a brilliant patch of larkspur we turned sharply up hill avoiding a scree slope to our left and worked our way up through the meadow until we reached the weather station at the top of the lower summit. After a break there taking in the scenery we proceeded down the shale slope then up to the summit of pigeon mountain. After a pleasant lunch we made our way down the main trail to a crowded parking lot and roadway at 3:30 pm Participants: John, Chip, Sonja, Teresa, Evan, John, Jo, Krzysztof, Christine, Laura, Jenny
