Given the uncertainty of snow depth after the weekend storm, we didn’t know how high we’d get. The hike up to the outlier was straightforward despite increasingly deeper snow, but after descending to the col and looking up Mt Kent’s steep climb, we agreed to turn back. Going up would have been fine, but coming back down would have been tractionless as the snow softened. Indeed, the decision was reinforced as we returned to the parking lot on slippery slush. Regardless of the shorter day, the views from the outlier are a pretty great consolation prize! The flowers along the ridge were plentiful and beautiful, having recovered nicely from being buried by snow.
