Sulphur Springs - Riverview ex Paddy's Flat Trail hike on 6-Apr-2025

We had a lovely warm day - temperature range from +5 to 17 from start to end of the hike. Of course, this resulted in the anticipated spring hiking trail conditions - mixture of dry path (very little), soft packed snow, ice and mud. Icers were beneficial, but the trail usually had some soft snow on the edges to give traction for those of us who were not wearing icers. A larger hiking group started on the trail around the same time as us, but we put some space between us by inadvertently going about .5 km in the wrong direction when reaching Sulphur Springs trail (due to coordinator inattention); this slight detour ensured that the other group vacated the prime viewpoints before we got there, so we basically had the trail to ourselves all day.

We had great views from our lunch spot across the Moose Mountain Road, and took another leisurely break in the afternoon at the large rock, known by many Ramblers as "Alastair's Rock" by the Elbow River.
