Sometimes, I redo a trip because it's a favorite and other times because I want to replace the original memory with a better one. The latter was the case today. Previously I had followed the route from the top of Yamnuska's treeline into the valley below which was not especially enjoyable. We did, however, find a great trail on our return so that's the trail we mostly followed today. I believe on GPS tracks, it is the CMC valley trail which branches off about halfway up the shoulder of Yam, and from there turns into a nice trail along the creek until you get closer to the pinnacles and turn upward to enjoy them. Despite the forecast winds, it was calm and crazy warm for a November scramble. Much of this route is sheltered, so a good choice if you are looking for something on a windy day.
Thanks to Sim, Jack, Paul, Stephanie and John - a fast group that challenged me today, covering 18 km and 1250 m in 7.5 hours. What I thought would be a mediocre shoulder season hike, may just be one of my favorites of the year!
