Please note: the Cataract Creek campround is closed after Labour Day. During closure the campground access road is gated at Highway 940 so there is not access to the parking lot just outside the campground entrance. Alternate parking is at the Cataract Creek Day Use Area parking lot (50.2827, -114.5907) across Highway 940 from the gate (parking lot has a washroom which was open), this adds almost a kilometre each way along the access road.
We had a great group with us today. There was very little snow on the trail, so no issues ascending. It was a surprisingly nice day, but a cold wind at the very top.
We decided to do a loop hike which was possible using a seldom used trail that was utilized before the flood. The loop didn't seem to add significant time or distance to the hike and allowed us to avoid climbing up a steep section on the way back. The trip took approximately 5 hours. We had a moderate to fast pace and a short lunch because of the cold at the top.
