Very enjoyable day with decent dry weather except for gusting winds near Rummel Pass. Although the larches were not as abundant as I expected they were present but just past their prime. However, the aspen were in glorious fall colours especially on the drive back to Calgary along highway 40 in the late afternoon sunshine. The trail was also quite dry with many roots from its popularity.
In the meadows between Rummel Lakes, we saw 3 magnificent sheep and on the drive several sheep, one coyote and one deer. It took us a fraction under 7hrs for the round trip of 16km and about 530m elevation gain including lunch and all breaks. Thanks go to the faster members who stopped at intervals to regroup. The south end of dirt road 742 was in relatively smooth condition with much of the dusty gravel pushed to the sides. When wet, it might be very slick.
Participants: Laszlo, Clifton, Deborah, Monica, Stephanie excellent sheep photo and David C,S and mediocre photos.
