Guinn's Pass/Peak & Galatea Lakes Off-Trail hike on 9-Sep-2024

Despite some unexpected wildfire smoke (in September!?) and strong winds, it was another great day in the mountains. The climb to the pass was beautiful due to lots of asters and harebells, red fireweed amongst green vegetation, and a remarkably tolerant band of 10 bighorn rams. We didn't linger at Guinn's Peak due to the wind, but had first lunch in the shelter of a small cliff halfway down to the pass. Then it was off to the always-beautiful Galatea Lakes for second lunch before taking the rockslide track back down to Lillian Lake for another long sit in the sun.

Fossils (at least that's what all 4 of us non-geologists thought they are)... Ed thinks that they are stromatoporids
