Waterton Group Camp at Belly River Social on 22-Jul-2024

The Belly River group campsite again provided a low cost ($6 per day) option for those wanting to get closer to nature. Despite record breaking temperatures, some smoke and high winds, the group camp participation exceeded all expectations, with 31 campers coming out over the 4 days. By setting up our tents and campers on the north and west sides of the site, we were shielded from the worst of the wind and had shade in the late afternoon. Temperatures hovered around 30C by mid-afternoon on most days, but thankfully cooled off quickly as the sun went down, with overnight lows of around 10C. A swim in the Belly River proved to be a popular means of cooling off at the end of each day. With some Ramblers staying in Pincher Creek and the Waterton motels to avoid the heat, the total turnout was around 45 club members and guests for the 4 days. A special thank you to Coordinators who posted 15 scrambles and hikes during the course of the week.
