Bertha Lake Trail hike on 25-Jul-2024

We all arrived at the trailhead ready to go. The temperature had cooled a bit so were looking forward to a good hike. We had some nice views of the lake, noting that there were a lot of whitecaps due to the high winds. We all met at the bridge and headed up the switchbacks where our next meeting place was the overview of Bertha Lake. We were in a forest of burned out trees. I heard a big crack and thought it might be a tree coming down. One of the participants let us know that he had seen a tree come down and that another group on the ways down had said they saw two trees come down. One member was not happy and decided to head down and a second person said she would join her. The rest of us had a group discussion and the concensus was that safety was paramount and we should all terminate the hike and leave. This was at the 3.5 KM point. Other vegetation was lush:

Subsequently two members saw a couple more trees come down so we decided it was a good decision. We met up at the parking lot and arranged to have lunch together at a picnic site on the lake. Our group lunch:
