Ribbon Creek Ski Trails Trail skiing on 23-Jan-2024

We decided to take advantage of the first of the really warm days after the Jan deep freeze to have a relaxed x-c ski on the groomed and trackset Ribbon Creek ski trails. Following a brief meeting at Ribbon Creek trailhead, we headed up Ribbon Creek connector, lower Kovach, did a loop on Aspen, returning to lunch at the viewpoint near Kovach-Terrace Link junction, followed by a brief ski down and back on Terrace Link, Kovach and back to vehicles in a little over 3 hours. Tracks were generally quite hard with only a little skier created shavings in shaded areas in northern aspect, icy intervals where the sun had melted the track on southern aspect (eg. Kovach loops near S junction with Aspen), and some groomed snow mixed with dirt and needles on portions of Terrace Link and Ribbon Creek trailhead connector. We enjoyed the exercise, fresh air and much chatting enroute, and the skiing was OK - nothing wrong with these trails that 20-30cm of new snow won't improve!
