Mt Niblock Scramble on 22-Sep-2023

Using the Parks Canada shuttle service (which we found to be well organized and efficient) we arrived at Lake Louise at about 9am with a fall crispness in the air that soon turned to warm sunshine. Using Alan Kane's words, we "elbowed our way along the paved lake shore path (crux, sort of)" and from there on the wide but still busy trail to Lake Agnes. While crowded, it was also nice to see everyone enjoying the day and hear many languages being spoken. Once past the lake and junction to Devil's Thumb, we were alone except meeting one solo Rambler at the col. The route through the first set of cliffbands was well marked and fun to scramble through. From there, we made our way up loose, somewhat tedious scree and rubble, until when looking back we could see a well travelled trail somewhat farther climber's right which followed a faint bench and traversed up from there to the col. We did find and enjoy this improved route on the way down as is often the case! From the col, the route is again well marked with more airy options as well as alternates. We enjoyed a relaxed lunch on the summit, and headed back down to take in all the views that bring visitors from near and far.

Thanks for what felt like a mini-vacation, Sim,Jack,Jane!
