A perfect day for a hike, not too hot or cold, not much wind, intermittent sun and as a bonus, this trip was new to the majority of participants. Ten of us headed out along the rolling, very rooty trail that starts from the parking lot halfway along the campground road, and follows a very pretty creek through the trees.
After a couple of kilometers, we came to a gravelly area with a waterfall and the beginning of the steep upward climb.
The climb was made a bit easier by the beautiful views down the valley, but a rest stop after the steepest part of the climb was welcome.
We continued along a trail beside the morraine for a short way, then descended and climbed onto the morraine, which we followed on an obvious trail to its end and the toe of the glacier.
This made for a very pleasant lunch spot with views of the glacier. Once the cooling breeze coming off the glacier became a bit too cool, we took our group photo and started back down.
Thanks everyone for a fun day and good company. Thanks especially to Clifton for coming along as mentor for my third trip as a probationary coordinator. Trip stats: 11km, 700m, 5.5 hrs total including a bit more than an hour stopping time.
