Brown-Lowery Park Trail hike on 31-Jul-2023

We had a beautiful summer day at Brown Lowery Provincial Park, except that one of our 15 hikers slipped on a wet tree root on the trail and broke their wrist. In a well-equipped Ramblers group, tension bandage and sling were quickly produced, and volunteers quickly rose to the occasion, driving the injured hiker and their car to Calgary to the ER. It could have happened to anybody, as slippery tree roots are an ever-present danger on any trail in a forested area. Sincere thanks to the rescuers and best wishes to the injured.

We walked just over 7 km and around 200 metres elevation gain. Not only was the weather a perfect, sunny 24 degrees, but there were almost no mosquitoes in what can sometimes be a buggy swamp. We had lunch at the viewpoint, and with the smoke pollution down to a tolerable rating of 3, we had reasonably clear views from the downtown Calgary skyline to the skyline of the Rocky Mountains. After the hike 5 of us enjoyed ice cream at Bragg Creek.
