Mt Lineham (Waterton) via Tamarack Trail Trail hike on 11-Jul-2023

In some ways, this hike turned out better than expected given the weather forecast: not enough rain to make us wet, wind that was cold up high but no worse than a typical mountain top, and no thunderstorms. But the clouds were SO LOW that we were in the clouds with no far-reaching summit views, although we did have beautiful views of the Lineham and Rowe Lakes from the ridge.

But fortunately the journey along the Rowe trail is so enjoyable that no day here can be considered a failure. The lush unburned forest, full-bloom subalpine flower meadows, and pretty creek are pure pleasure, plus we saw bighorns and baby grouse. Three of us extended the day by detouring to the upper Rowe lakes on the return, making a day of over 21 km and 1260m.
