We had a lovely day hiking most of powderface ridge starting from the south and followed the well beaten trail until just before we reached the col. Due to the coordinator's faulty memory, we headed steeply uphill sooner than is optimum in order to reach the ridge crest. This turned a TL3 rating into a SC5. The short scramble bit was negotiated in good humor and took us to the wide ridge which we followed until we reached the junction with the powderface creek trail. We descended the creek trail back to the cars left at the powderface creek parking lot.
The rating for the trip was TL3 which would have been accurate had we stayed on the well beaten trails but that would not have been as interesting as the route we took. It is very lovely to walk along the top of the ridge even when it is rather rocky and there is no discernible trail. The views are wonderful and a slight breeze cooled us down. Fortunately, the participants had experience in this type of terrain and enjoyed the ridge walk. The creek trail section of the trip can only be described as long and very well worn but provided the opportunity to chat as we plodded along.
It was a very sociable outing and I thank the participants for their company and accommodating the unexpected trip rating upgrade during one section of this route. 13.4km; 628m; 5.5hrs.
