Akamina Ridge via Forum Lake Scramble on 14-Jul-2022
We set off on this classic hike at 9 am under blue skies and sunshine. The climb up to Forum Lake took us through burned forest and lush vegetation, with impressive clumps of bear grass and flowers. The area around the lake still had large patches of snow, but we didn’t linger as we came under attack from clouds of mosquitoes. The scramble section went smoothly with a fairly obvious route, and a welcome breeze to keep us cool on the ascent. Once on the ridge we were greeted by some spectacular views looking south into Glacier Park. The ridge section stretched for about 4 km and had three distinct high points, which we hiked at a very leisurely pace with lots of photo stops. The hike down was uneventful although some sections of the trail down to Wall Lake were completely snow covered. We got back to the vehicles at 5:45 pm having done 18.5 km with a cumulative elevation gain of 1,250 m. Thanks to Rosanne,Philip,Phyllis,Joanne,Steve and guest Irene Balutis for joining me. John c/s. And thank you Steve for photos.
