Cascade Fire Road to Warden Cabin Track skiing on 11-Mar-2022

A very fine day with good snow, it stayed cold enough to make waxing easy and was warm enough for good glide on the downhills. The route had not been trackset recently but the old tracks were well defined in most cases. The climb up the first long hill went well and where the track was a little slick it was easy enough to go up the firm area beside it:

We took a rest stop at the Cascade River bridge which probably had the trickiest section of the trip, the snow on the bridge was quite firm and convex on top so one had to take care while crossing (some walked it on the return):

It was a long steady climb beyond the bridge before descending to the side trail to the Warden cabin, this was where we saw the only other person who went beyond the bridge. It took about 2.5 hours from the parking lot. It was overcast at the cabin, which probably helped keep the snow in good condition considering that the thermometer at the cabin registered at the freezing mark:

The ski back was quite fast on the long hills, you had to pay attention to the wiggly tracks when you got up to high speed. Back past the Cascade River bridge it was still good snow conditions and the long downhill back to the road was slick but controllable. There was a little slippage on the trackset road as we headed to the parking lot:

It was a little over 1.5 hours for the return trip.

Thanks everybody for joining me to take advantage of the snow conditions before the forecast warmer weather settles in for a few days. Ron C/S/P. Participants: Sim ,Barbara (photo), Alda, Damian, Nardi, Patrick, Jane, Anne.

Start temp -6C, end temp +2C.
