Mist Ridge - Mist Creek loop Off-Trail hike on 14-Aug-2021
We had a very nice hike.
We started from the cars at Mist Creek a little before 9:00. As we started climbing we ran into a trio of which two were in camo gear. After running into them several times, and seeing them from a distance, we determined that they were looking for elk sign. But they hadn't seen much if any.
The hike up to the ridge was relatively uneventful.

Nearing the first summit of Mist RidgeFrom the first point where one can see the entire ridge the coordinator followed the "camo" group on a horse trail but soon realized the mistake and we turned around to get to the OT3/4 section of the trip. Smoke obscured all but the nearer peaks, but it did afford some very pretty views. Especially as in this photo from Deb.

Ramblers under the sun about to tackle Mist Ridge We were at the south summit shortly after noon where we had our first lunch.

1st lunch on Mist Ridge - south summit We then had the "payoff" portion of the hike with on the lovely ridge walk to the north summit.

A Bevy of Ramblers at the summit of Mist RidgeWhere we had our second lunch around 2:00.

Second lunch at the north summit of Mist Ridge At the summit we encountered a fellow who had started an hour before us, got to the summit, descended to the col, ascended Gibraltar Mtn, and returned to the summit! Just a little younger and fitter! From there we descended down to Rykert's Pass with a few of the ladies "bagging" the rocky sub-peaks along the way.

Exploring the crags above Rykert's PassThe return from Rykert's pass was nice especially as we got into the much cooler shade of the trees as the day got hotter. But does take a very long time on weary legs. I had previously done this in June and remember quite a bit of wet bog, Only a few meters of that this year. The slowest were about 3 hours from the pass to the cars. All back a little after 6 pm.
9+hours, 25 km, 1050 m ascent.
Many thanks to participants: Sim,Gary,Alda,Susan,Jeannette,Sonja,Ross,Jenny,Lenard, and Deb (photos) for joining me,Carl (C/S). This was my very first hike as a Rambler coordinator in June 2006. I won't (better not) wait 15 years to do it again.
