Eight of us met at the trailhead at Evan Thomas for the Old Baldy Climb. We followed the previous route taken by Kevin on June 23 and found the trail well defined. Jeannette who had done the trip with Kevin was very helpful in directing us when we needed it. The trail leaves the road after about 2 km and climbs steeply through the trees before entering a boulder field before reaching open ridges with spectacular views of folded mountains. We hiked along the ridge until we came to the base of Old Baldy which looked pretty intimidating. however, we managed to clamber up.
The slabs required some route finding and we followed the advance group up.
We made it to the summit and enjoyed the fine weather and warm sun.
Thanks to Terry for the great photos and thanks to group for kindly waiting for me Sonja, Simon, Evan, Terry, Dean, Jim and Jeannette. Time: 8:45 am to 6:00 pm.
