Junction Creek Falls Trail hike on 8-Aug-2020

Within 2 minutes of starting the trip to Junction Creek Falls, a ford of the Sheep River is required.

Maybe that's why so many people do this trip in August. Despite the occasional, yet short-lived ight showers throughout the morning, we encountered enough hikers of various shapes and sizes that it would be virtually impossible to run into any bears.

The gentle trail is perfect for mountain biking up to the old sawmill site, 3 km in. The next 4 km are so mangled by horse traffic that you would have to be crazy to bike this portion. But for hikers, it is quite fun to match your stride to step on the high points, kind of like walking on railway ties.

There are a couple of small creek crossings and views of cataracts as you head up the valley.

A few campsites appear as you turn west at Waterfall valley.

Suddenly we found ourselves at the beautiful 3-tiered falls beholding the amazing spectacle.

The Coordinator had lost a pair of sunglasses further up the main valley on a recent trip, so Peter joined me as we hiked another 1/2 km to search for them.

Unfortunately, they were not found, so we headed back to the falls to join Gary and guest, Rosemary, for lunch.

It was surprising to see mountain bikers who had come all the way.

We even saw horses as we headed back down the trail.

The final river crossing felt great on the feet at the end of the trip. My thanks to participants: Peter, Gary, and Rosemary.

Brian, Coordinator.
