Green Mtn loop via Spaulding Point Off-Trail hike on 14-Jul-2020

Green Mountain used to be one of the Ramblers' favourite trips. This time we found that much evidence of past use has disappeared, as the grass, shrubs and flowers have obliterated the old trails.

Thus we had an adventure and it felt like new territory. We missed the turnoff with the two little arrows, finally deciding to bushwhack, flower whack and grass whack straight to the top, where we had lunch on the sandstone ridge above "the Castle."

The flowers were in profusion, especially the wood lilies, including a cluster of 4 including a two headed bloom.

We scrambled down to the Castle and down a draw which led us eventually to the two arrows, but despite Gillean Daffern's dream of a good trail developing, it was wilderness all the way.

We were back to the cars by 4:15. The trip ended up being actually an OT4 with some easy near scrambling in the sandstone.

Participants: Francisco, Mohsen, Douglas, David and Carl, coordinator and scribe.
