peak 583979 above Lineham Ridge 582972 Scramble on 12-Sep-2019
Apart from a bad mistake by me communicating the trailhead meeting location we had a good day on the longish ridge walk to this little peak in the Highwood. Poor attention to an email exchange by me meant that one participant went to the wrong trailhead (or the right one according to my email!). Fortunately the participant is resourceful and competent and we did all meet up , not at the trail head, but at the summit! Most of the group left the Lineham creek trailhead just after 9:00 am on a muddy horse trail on the north bank above Lineham creek. After being high above the creek the trail did come down to the creek with flagging suggesting a crossing to the south bank but there appeared, also, to be a trail continuing along the north bank that would avoid crossing the creek. Mistakenly we took this north bank trail which petered out after a while and we were bushwhacking (Rambler's trip!). After a while we came to a side creek after which we climbed a steep bank and then intersected the good trail.
Once out of the trees I enjoyed the longish grassy ridge walk with extensive views.

Even without the scramble, for me, Lineham ridge is a really nice long ridge walk

Nice views from Lineham ridge

Nice ridge walking on Lineham ridge The last bit to the little peak gave us some scrambling on nice grippy rock.

Above the grassy Lineham ridge it is definitely scrambling terrain

David on the scrambly bit to the peak above Lineham ridge Fortuitously our timing was perfect getting to the summit at the same time as Carolyn who had come up from Lantern creek (Picklejar lakes trailhead). Carolyn reported moderate (SC6) scrambling on her route with helmets being desirable.

Susan, Gary, Toshiko, Carolyn, David, Chip and John on summit of peak above Lineham ridge We did consider descending to the Picklejar trail via Carolyn's route but we did not have helmets and one participant had stashed some gear lower down on the Lineham creek approach. So the whole group returned to Lineham creek. On return we followed the trail back to the creek where a log offered a nice crossing to the south bank where Bruce found the good horse trail again to where we had seen the flagging in the morning.

Carolyn crossing to the south side of Lineham creek This second crossing back to the north bank was a little trickier but Chip et al reported a reasonable spot to rock hop 50-60m upstream from the north bank flagging. The Lineham creek crossings are probably subject to change and trickier at spring runoff. We were back at the trailhead just after 5:00 pm. I think the next time I would try and arrange a car shuttle and come up from Lantern creek and descend to Lineham creek - looks like a nice loop. Thanks to participants: David,Gary,Susan,Chip,Bruce,Carolyn and Toshiko from John. Special thanks to Carolyn for being very gracious and accepting about my trailhead mistake.
