Spencer Creek Trail hike on 26-Jul-2017
Three of us headed up the Spencer Creek trail after the bumpy drive above Canmore. We proceeded up the trail being passed by a young singleton with a climbing helmet who was planning on climbing Lougheed, but needing to ask us if this was the way...he had never been up here before and didn't believe in GPS's (and maps?). However, we kept on going past the lovely mossy stream area and soon reached the meadows.

Shortly after entering the Spencer Creek meadows with one of the Lougheed Peaks behind.

Looking towards the upper meadows.

Douglas in the meadows. Some flowers were still present including Camas, Fireweed, Twin Flowers and Saxifrage, but the Arnicas were mostly past.

Yellow Saxifrage in Spencer Creek meadows. There was very little water in the creek, unlike the situation a month or so ago and so the creek crossing was a simple step.

Teresa and Douglas at Spencer Creek. We heard marmots all the time in the meadows. A couple of them were watching us for a long time, perched on a high boulder in the upper meadows.

The upper meadows with a couple of marmots waiting on the big rock.

A couple of marmots watching us with the cliffs of Sparrowhawk behind. After a leisurely lunch at the end of the valley, we headed back, taking about 1.25 hours to get back to the cars. After the return bumpy drive, we stopped at the Canmore Nordic Centre Day Lodge to enjoy some coffee with the spectacular views from the large sitting area; there was almost no one else there.
