Mt Indefatigable North Peak & traverse Scramble on 16-Jul-2017

We started from the Kananaskis Upper Lake Parking lot just before 9.00am in partially cloudy but windy weather. Good steady progress was made up the decommissioned trail through the basin where most of us chose to visit the eastern outlier for good but smoky views.

We passed a solitary older gentlemen from Montana. Then we scrambled up the North peak of Mt. Indefatigable. Due to rock fall, we split up into two groups for this and regrouped just down from the summit out of the wind for an early lunch at 12 noon.

The Montana man was also here, but he preferred to return to his car the same way.
The traverse to the south summit was somewhat more challenging than usual due the strong gusty wind and it was cool enough for jackets.

Another break out of the wind near the south summit was hurriedly aborted when we heard a distant rumble of thunder. But we had plenty of opportunity to take in the vast views which were only slightly marred by smoke.
On the descent we passed several parties some ascending and others descending. We again took another break near tree line, but this was interrupted by blowing dust, so with a few stops to talk with other hikers, we reached the cars about 3.00pm.

Since we were a little early for the barbeque, we lounged around the busy parking lot for 30 minutes, before joining the approximately 60 other ramblers for an excellent barbeque organised by Ealaine. In my opinion a very good day with excellent company. It was a pleasure to meet new member Simon and also Uli's husband Gary. 10km, 1000m elevation gain, 6 hours.
Participants: David,Alda,John,Damian,Kevin,Ross,Ulrike,Simon and guest Gary.
